Abiding Education Amidst Pandemic

The major responsibilities in the field of education is the development of students in their academic and personal commitment to values, that is basic to a society. This also provides for subject superiority and for its intelligent application to the lives of the individual whom the late Dr. Jose Rizal called Ang Pag-asa ng Bayan.

One of the blended-learning methods that the Department of Education for the School Year 2021-2022 is noted as modular learning which explains that the technology and internet connectivity in our country is still a problem for most students. With that, printed materials are being distributed and retrieved that refers to the division of conventional courses into smaller components or modules. A module prioritizes authentic information that presents point in an intelligent way and it can be distinguished according to learner's needs. It includes section on discourse and assessment that serve as a complete guide of both teachers' and students' desired competencies. The advancement was mainly due to the zeal of safety and to control the transmission of virus to both the students and educators. It has been concluded by the government as a great opportunity, aside from keeping the one who's prone to communicable diseases like COVID-19, it has also helped the education to continue even outside the corners of the school.

Learning in the school and learning inside a house are not the same thing; it became the most concern towards abiding education. The two cases may have the same roof but one should realize the fact that learners as beings are built differently; that they are endowed with different physical capabilities and intellectual abilities. Under such a situation of pros and cons, the parents or guardians have been reviewed as consistent on being the learners’ model and the bridge of education since the students is geographically remote from its professor. They come and go to designated pick up points in their barangays. This kind of setup, however, poses risks. Teachers and parents raised concerns over the distribution and collection of modules due to fears of contracting the coronavirus. On the other hand, everyone is advised to wear protective paraphernalia like facemask or face shield and obey other safety protocols to prevent massive positive cases at least.

There is reason to believe that the capacity of innovation, for the new normal, the acquisition of new knowledge, and some changes in the school’s system are necessary to development. To develop these capacities requires that students be exposed to an atmosphere where their curiosity is stimulated, their right to ask queries insured, where they have ample opportunity to develop their creativeness and independency to study even without a seatmate to talk to and a teacher in front of the blackboard. And the most important thing is, where their health is protected. If these conditions do not exist, there will be no sense of change with education at all. Learners can’t wait until education isn’t difficult to reach anymore; the government can't wait either to decide on doing what's best for every living thing that has a dream. There’s no specific or perfect time for learning, it is their will to start and continue at any cause; whether the world is ruled by pandemic or not.

To be more educated when old is to start learning when young. The Philippine government is seeing to it that its young become well-educated, that a real success in this department leaves no learners behind, that education is not a privilege. Coexisting with this pandemic is the modern definition of surviving with a purpose and SURVIVAL might be the only choice we have and probably the inspiration to move forward.
