Art is in the Eye of the Beholder

Art is in the Eye of the Beholder

It is beyond all extraordinary talents for such normal people to acquire. It takes creative minds, wandering contrivance of imaginations to be proficient artists. March 1, 2024, at Lazi, Siquijor. Students with gifted talents are on their excellence and readiness to unleash their minds’ radar of creativity, innovative strategic skills, and profound intellectuality. And one of those amazing students is Missy Bless Quillicot, a young connoisseur artist with the hands of an expert, strokes of brushes and canvas, turning imaginations into life with just a whip of her wrist. A blessing and an extraordinaire indeed. She’s the art of Candaping National High School’s landscapes; her works carve deep evocative creativity, an artist who brings her art to life.

It was her honor, along with her astounding opponents, to let their minds take in the scenery in front of them. And there, stood proudly in front of them like a glorious gallant of culture and heritage, behind their canvas, the Lazi Church and Convent with great influence and importance to the Siquijodnons’ historical sights, one of the biggest Churches in Asia, was the protagonist on their rough bristled canvas. And like the artist she is, she never fails to disappoint, with the notion that art is supposed to make someone feel something, an emotion per se, it was like Missy created her own world of fantasy through her art, capturing the Church despite her placement in the area that disables her to fully capture the whole visage of the Church. Still, she amazingly and miraculously managed to picture out the Church with such accuracy, realistic shadings, and her use of colors that complement the harmonies of the strokes of her brushes.

She gained a bronze medal and was awarded 3rd Placer in Pintahusay of the Divisional Festival of Talents; however, to everyone who had taken an awe of appreciation of her breathtaking art means she had succeeded everyone’s expectations and maybe even more. Which was the reason her masterpiece became a part of the artistic cultural piece laid and designed along with the reminiscent ancient memories that traveled along the history of Siquijodnons inside the Convent Museum of Lazi.

The formal turn-over of the masterpiece

Despite not garnering and snatching the gold of victory, her art piece managed to captivate the heart and mind of Rev. Fr. Marcelo Q. Kinilitan. With such influence and reaction, her art became valuable enough to be part of the Museum’s sumptuous historical artifacts. Every art is subjective, everything is art, there are no winners or losers, art is something that exists because it is supposed to be. E.A Bucchianeri once said, “Art is in the eye of the beholder, and everyone will have their own interpretation.”
